Local, site-specific issues relevant to Mexico are the basis of Katya Gardea Browne’s highly aesthetic works of photography and video. In order to bridge the familiar dichotomy of nature and culture, she concentrates on pre-colonial (agri-)cultural practices. As an artist and biologist, Brandon Ballengée equally explores the fields of nature, natural science, and ecology. Reactivating the scientific method of ‘clearing and staining’ specimens, he uses it in an artistic context to produce large portraits of deformed frogs. In her artistic practice Pinar Yoldas explores the link between technology and nature. Through her research on the technologization of nature she often ventures into the domain of speculative design.
