A trinity of projects by visual artists of international regard who make music to abduct audiences into a wonderland of Doom: John von Bergen, Nicole Bianchet, Tom Früchtl and Catherine Lorent.
The acoustic spectrum of the evening is undisputable. From siren songs to archaic–Metal–Doom. Catherine Lorent with Gran Horno presents their third album Hymni and Bianchet three new albums, House of Silence, Cotton Candy and Carousel, and Milky Stroboscope and Burning Rainbows. Gran Horno’s latest album Hymni appears on vinyl with eight tracks written over the last decade. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered in Berlin at the sound studio of Martin J. Fiedler over November–December 2014.
Born in Munich, the multi-instrumentalist Catherine Lorent, who comes from Luxembourg and has lived in Berlin since 2007, bewitches audiences with her unusual and comprehensive multi-octave, sub-alto voice of sexy, dark timbres, accessing dreamy states and dark recesses. A complex polyphonic stratification of the pastures of Old. On the occasion of her solo exhibition, “decicatio artis turbantis eternalis wünschte” in the Abbey de Neumünster Luxembourg, instead of producing another publication to silently accompany her Venice Biennale catalogue on the bookshelf, Lorent has produced a special edition 12’ vinyl with cover artwork and a download code available from the Gran Horno website: www.granhorno.com.
Nicole Bianchet‘s album (House Of Silence) is stunning …
The classically trained soprano enchants with her haunting siren song and multi-faceted voice that ranges from a whisper to a crescendo — an abduction into a parallel world of magic and melancholy. Fans of Hope Sandoval, Kate Bush and Beth Gibbons will be tested. Born in Los Angeles, Nicole Bianchet grew up in the Black Forest, and since 2009 has lived in Berlin and the Netherlands. A painter (represented by Galerie Michael Haas), in 2014 she developed the project idea to produce three solo albums in one year. All albums have been recorded live in an “Old School” style. The music ranges from the delicate tones of singer–songwriter Sibylle Baier to Gloomy Lollipop à la Julee Cruise.
In 2009, artist Tom Früchtl (Electric guitar) and John von Bergen (Drums) formed the Metal project Hertzangst. Since 2012, Lorent (Growling/Bass) aka Gran Horno, one of the few female growlers, complements the former duo to play in the sacred halls of Berlin and elsewhere. Together they make a dream Doom Trinity.
Hertzangst plays live spontaneous compositions inspired by Anihilator, Anthrax, Autopsy, Black Sabbath, Carcass, Bathory, The Birthday Party, The Coughs, The Cro-Mags, The Crumbsuckers, Death From Above 1979, Excrucitation, Dark Angel, Darkthrone, The Devils Blood, Closter, Eisenvater, The Ex Models, Fantomas, Fear, Health, Heaven Shall Burn, Immolation, Jex Toth, Lady Gaga, The Liars, Kyuss, Makita, Melt Banana, The Melvins, Minor Threat, The Misfits, Motörhead, Mudhoney, My Dying Bride, Napalm Death, Nile, Rock Goddess, Selfish Cunt, Sepultura, Sexy Sushi, Six Finger Satellite, Slayer, Slipknot, Suicidal Tendencies, and Vio-Lence.
After the band’s presentations, Bianchet and Lorent will end the evening with Hertzangst –tribal culmination. The improvised stage environment includes Bianchet’s desiring machines (everyone will be granted a wish) and other ritual objects and charms from the cabinet of curiosities found in the studios of these Berlin artists.
