The Luxembourg Art Week is about to take place the second time, starting on the 9^th of November 2016. We talked to the initiator Alex Reding, director of Nosbaum Reding, about the development of the Art Week and the location of Luxembourg.

What are the main changes in comparison to the first edition?
Was hat sich im Vergleich zur ersten Edition verändert?

The Luxembourg Art Week has set itself two important goals for this year, to strengthen the fair: addressing a broader audience and creating a wider and more versatile range. With 48 exhibitors and a multiplicity of international galleries we are able to sharp our profile. Now we are excited for the visitors to come.
Die Luxembourg Art Week hat für dieses Jahr zwei wichtige Zielsetzungen verfolgt, um die Messe zu stärken: ein breiteres Publikum an zu sprechen und ein größeres und vielseitigeres Angebot zu schaffen. Mit 48 Ausstellern und einer Mehrzahl an internationalen Galerien konnten wird das Profil schärfen. Jetzt sind wir gespannt auf die Besucher.

What highlight does the Luxembourg Art Week offer? 
Welche Highlights hat die Luxembourg Art Week 2016 zu bieten?

Additionally to the galleries there are also associations, exhibition venues and artist initiatives participating, as we want to give the various players of the art market a platform. The emphasis this year will lie even stronger than before on art mediation. Therefore talks, tours and a new “special guest”- programme will be offered, to show art in all its width.
Zusätzlich zu den Galerien stellen auch Vereine, Ausstellungsorte und Künstlerinitiativen aus, denn wir wollen den unterschiedlichsten Playern des Kunstmarktes eine Plattform geben. Der Akzent wird in diesem Jahr noch stärker als zuvor auf die Kunst-Vermittlung gesetzt. So gibt es Gespräche, Führungen und ein neues «special guest» Programm, um Kunst in seiner ganzen Breite zu betrachten.

Luxembourg and its surrounding areas are more and more evolving to an interesting art location. What steps led to this growing importance of art in this region?
Luxembourg und seine Umgebung entwickelt sich immer stärker zu einem interessanten Kunststandort,  was hat dazu geführt, dass zeitgenössische Kunst immer stärker in dieser Region präsent ist?

The dynamic emerged with the opening of the Casino in 1996 and shortly after in 1998 Luxembourg hosted the Manifesta. Since the opening of the Centre Pompidou in Metz and the planned opening of the new museum building in Saarbrücken, the greater region of Luxembourg generated a substantial denseness and a very high quality of art. The people here are willing to bring themselves into action as collectors, as a result of this Luxembourg will not only be able to be recognised as financial centre and European capital, but also as a location that can hold its own art market.
Die Dynamik entstand mit der Eröffnung des Casinos in 1996 und kurz danach mit der Manifesta, die 1998 in Luxemburg stattgefunden hat. Seit der Eröffnung des Centre Pompidou in Metz und der geplanten Eröffnung des Museumsneubaus in Saarbrücken hat die Großregion Luxembourg eine beträchtliche Dichte und eine sehr hohe Qualität an Kunst zu bieten. Die Menschen hier sind bereit, sich auch als Sammler stärker einzusetzen, sodass Luxembourg nicht nur als Finanzstandort und europäische Hauptstadt bekannt sein wird, sondern auch einen eignen Kunstmarkt tragen kann.
